Kailuais acensus-designated place(CDP) inHawaiʻi County,Hawaii,United States, in theNorth Kona Districtof theIsland of Hawaiʻi.It is the center of commerce and of the tourist industry on West Hawaiʻi. Its post office is designatedKailua-Konato differentiate it from the largerKailualocated on windward side ofOʻahuisland, and it is sometimes referred to asKonain everyday speech. The city is served byKona International Airport, located just to the north in the adjacentKalaoa CDP.Kailua-Kona was the closest major settlement to theepicenterof the2006 Hawaiʻi Earthquake.
